Twitter starts to be, now, really known. Today we will focus on what it is and how to use it because, as often happens, there are authoritative articles and resources on the web that there will be a great help in this regard. I personally use Twitter recently and the first "problem" that I had to solve was to find a good client to use on GNU / Linux. Just to help many of you were to decide to try using this communication system, I decided to compile a small list of clients and especially with most popular free software tools and / or Open Source! Lately I have noticed that many customers fano using Adobe Air, but an honest policy regarding Adobe licensing and source code I do not like and then I turned a bit 'in well-functioning network to find clients who did not use of system Adobe house. We proceed, therefore, with their enumeration in rigorous random order, but starting from the clients available in the repositories of Debian unstable.

This client is inspired, as the authors tell us, the famous Twitterrific for the Mac. If you have a Debian or Ubuntu you can download the software directly with Synaptic or apt-get because it was included in these distributions. GTwitter is quite complete and lets you read the timeline of his friends and the public, to update your profile, as well as set the refresh time and notification of updates to the timeline. Personally, I found a simple and useful tool, certainly try.

Although this client you can install it directly with the management software Ubunto or Debian. This is a very comprehensive and client that allows to use on desktops virtually all the features of Twitter. In fact, you can see, in addition to the timeline, staff, friends or public, even the direct messages sent and received, and friends. Addition, through Twitux you can directly add friends to your profile, update their status and next two sections direct messages to friends. Indeed, in the options, you can configure the Spell checking in Italian! If you just want to be pedantic, a feature that is missing is that of direct processing of the URL sent with tinyurl or similar services.

Client Gwibber was created to allow the updating of many microblog, not just Twitter. Recently it has also been included in Ubuntu 9.04 repositories and then you can install it directly from Synaptic or the like. The impression one gets from this client is very positive. In fact, it allows you to manage not only Twitter, but also other microblogging platforms like Flickr to name but one, and is very well cared for by a aesthetic point of view. Surely this is one of the clients more attractive and functional.

Qwit is a client written using the Qt4 libraries and, therefore, good for those who use the KDE desktop. Too, like its predecessors, comes complete with all the features most important to update your timeline or timeline to follow the public or friends. E 'can also manage your messages directly through their shipping and their reading.

As before, this is a client created graphics library for KDE. The software comes complete with all functions and can be easily installed even on Gnome simply downloading packages curl and kdebase-bin.

Looking for a client that allows to use the basic functions of Twitter without logging in every time on web pages, this is what you are searching Mitter. Mitter is a client interface written in Python using the GTK libraries. Currently we have come to version .0.4.5 and is sufficiently complete for a basic use. Certainly the most interesting aspect is that you can also use the client terminal. I would say that is a function friendly and very geek : D Interestingly, one of the objectives of the developer is to create a "port" at a later time on the Nokia smartphones.

Even in this case it is a client really minimal. The sole purpose of ZenTwitter is to update your Twitter account, and therefore this state. The main feature of this client is, therefore, minimal. Recommended for those who only need to write on their own timeline without logging on the web.

As you do not like to have a specific application for account management Twitter, a good solution might be to install an add-on for Firefox. TwitterFox is definitely one of the most famous and is rich in features that are worth trying.

TwitKit is another Firefox add-on account management Twitter. This add-on is divided into 6 sections that handle different aspects of Twitter. You can now use your personal timeline, the public timeline, a list of friends and their latest tweets, replies sent to friends as well as some statistics of your account and your followers with its latest tweets.

Really very interesting this addon for firefox. Indeed, through TwitterBar you can write your own tweets directly from the address bar of your browser! Basically after installing this addon will create a Twitter button in the address bar. From that moment you can write the tweet that you want to publish in the address bar of your browser and publish pressing the new button. By highlighting the words you can count how many characters are running and ... very interesting feature: if you want to publish on your timeline that you are viewing a URL, simply add at the tail-append "-post" to post directly on the timeline!

TwitterBar we finished with this list of Twitter client for Linux. I hope that this will be helpful and please notify other .. The important thing is to be distributed with Free Software or Open Source license and not using the Adobe Air ;)
